Our second ensemble piece was the inaugural debut of the fully staged, updated production of Dustin Lance Black’s “8” The Play. It tells the true story of the closing arguments of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the federal trial that led to the overturn of Proposition 8—an amendment eliminating rights of same-sex couples to marry in California.

SHOW SYNOPSIS
“8” was originally created by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black in light of the court's denial of a motion to release a video recording of the trial and to give the public a true account of what transpired in the courtroom. This gripping, true-life account of the goings on in and outside of the courtroom during the trial in the fight for marriage equality is eye-opening, motivating and rooted in truth—as the script is comprised of original transcripts from the trial and one-on-one interviews with key witnesses.
