The Lady from the Sea
SHOW SYNOPSIS
In a small Norwegian village, Ellida Wangel is perpetually aloof and unsatisfied, missing her father, the sea, and the freedom of her youth. When she marries an older widower with two daughters, she finds herself trapped inland, daydreaming about a lost love. But is the entity who visits her dreams the sailor who pledged themselves to her many years ago? And is the stranger who comes to town the very same?
Meanwhile, Ellida’s step-daughters negotiate their futures, contemplating what currency they have to decide their future, while fighting the suspicion they have already been bought. Ellida’s relationships with her step-daughters, friends, and husband, lead her onto the stranger’s path–to understand her wildness, to love without reservation, to leave her sea legs behind–the answer surely lies with them.

WHY THIS SHOW FOR PRIDE MONTH?
Henrik Ibsen’s play is a powerful expression of a woman's search for her own identity, in a world where women are defined by who they are with, instead of who they are or who they could become. This production of The Lady From the Sea explores themes of queer longing, adaptability, and the spectrum of obligation and choice.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
For this production, we decided to support LAMBDA Legal, the nation’s premier civil rights organization supporting the rights of LGBTQ+ people and everyone living with HIV. We donated $500 of proceeds from this production to their Pride Month campaign, which offered a 5x match— bringing our total donation impact up to $2500.
